Abundant
Life
Ps 25:13- What
would have become of me had I not believed that I would see the Lord's
goodness in the land of the living.
We know that heaven will be a glorious place, but Jesus instructed us
to pray that God's will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. That
is why Jesus came.
1 John 3:8-
The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy,
loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil has done.
John
10-10 tells us what the works of the devil are and why he comes.
In fact it tells us
that the devil only comes with one purpose in mind. "The thief only
comes to steal and kill and destroy." Mark 4: 15 also tells us that
Satan is after the Word. He comes to steal the Word from us before it
can take root and produce life.
John 10:10- (Jesus) I came that they might have and enjoy life, and have
it in abundance (to the full till it overflows.)
The
word for life in the Greek is Zoe. The following is an explanation that
I found explaining what Zoe life means to the believer.
Zoe is the life in the spirit as
God himself has it. It is a life of continued duration, both past, present,
and future. Once we accept Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we always have
Zoe life. This is a life of constant blessing as it is in heaven. In other
words, no sickness, no poverty, etc. etc., because these do not exist
in heaven. It is a quality of life as well.
Abundant life is God's will for every believer. This life is available
by faith in God's Word. Satan is constantly trying to steal our inheritance.
We must stand our ground and demand his retreat in order to experience
all that God has for us. Jesus came to destroy the works of Satan, but
it is up to the church to enforce his defeat. We must come against Satan
the same way that Jesus did when He was on the earth. Jesus exercised
authority over the devil with the Word of God. He always said, "It
is written". Ephesians 6:16 calls the Word of God, "the sword
which the Spirit wields". It is an important part of the armor of
God that we must use for spiritual warfare. It is an offensive weapon.
As we speak forth the Word of God, we pierce through the powers of darkness.
Just as the Israelites had to drive out their enemies to realize their
inheritance, so must the New Covenant believer do the same. Don't be discouraged
if you have had many difficulties that have come against you. Hold on
to the Word of God. Let it become deeply rooted in your heart and it will
cause you to rise above the storms of life and experience more and more
of the abundant life that Jesus promises.
